“We're happy with what we have.”
Also sounds like: Things are working fine · We don't need anything · No problems here
What it usually means
Status quo is your biggest competitor. Don't argue with "happy"; get curious about what "even better" would look like.
Three ways to answer
1. Even better
“Great to hear. If you could improve one thing about how [the process] works today, what would it be?”
Why it works: Happy teams still have a wish list; this question finds it.
2. Benchmark
“Good to know. How do you measure whether it's working, out of interest?”
Why it works: If they don't measure it, "happy" may be a guess, and you've found your opening.
3. Keep the door open
“Fair enough. Would it be okay if I checked in after [their next milestone] to see if anything's changed?”
Why it works: A respectful, specific follow-up beats pushing on a closed door.
Fill in the [brackets] with your own product, reason for calling and real customer results.
Questions worth asking
- What does good look like for you?
- What would make you look at alternatives?
Avoid
- Telling them they're wrong to be happy.
